Haras La Roussille

A small stud of miniature Falabella horses, bred with patience in the Occitan hills — thirteen generations of Argentine artistry, quietly continued.

Introduction

A living legacy of Argentine equine artistry

The Falabella is not a pony. It is a true horse in miniature — the product of nearly two centuries of patient, deliberate selection from the estancias near Buenos Aires.

At Haras La Roussille we carry that lineage forward in the Occitan hills: a small, carefully kept herd where each horse is known by name, and each foal is matched, never merely sold, to a single home.

Heritage

Thirteen generations, one unbroken line

  1. 01

    c. 1845 · Buenos Aires

On the fertile pampas near Buenos Aires, the Falabella family begins selecting the smallest, finest horses from their Criollo stock — a quiet experiment in miniaturisation that would take nearly two centuries to perfect.

  2. 02

    13 generations of selection

Through thirteen generations, size was reduced and refinement increased — never at the cost of bone, temperament, or true equine character. The result is a horse that is fully a horse, only in miniature.

  3. 03

    A 25-year companion

Falabellas are exceptionally long-lived, often surpassing twenty-five years. A placement is therefore a long commitment, not a purchase — which is why we match each foal to a home, rather than sell to the first bidder.

  4. 04

    La Roussille · Occitanie

From the Argentine pampas to the Occitan hills, the programme continues under a single principle: quality over quantity, always. Our herd is small by design.

Gallery of the Herd

Falabellas of La Roussille

Each horse in our care, rendered as an old-master equestrian portrait — a gallery of the living legacy, painted in the Occitan light.

Portraits are artist renderings from coat-colour descriptions; the owner may replace them with photographs at any time. Individual photo-to-horse attribution is pending owner confirmation.

2027 Reservations

Foals expected in 2027

We anticipate a small number of foals in 2027 from our foundation mares Solita and Valegra. Placement is selective: each foal is matched to the best-suited home, not the first to enquire.

  1. 01

    Enquiry

Tell us about your home, your experience, and what draws you to a Falabella. There is no application fee.

  2. 02

    Review

We review each enquiry personally and, where there is a fit, begin a conversation about the right foal for your home.

  3. 03

    Placement

When a foal is the right match, we confirm placement with a pedigree and care dossier, and reserve the foal for your home. A refundable deposit secures the match.

Placement is not first-come, first-served. We prioritise the welfare and lifelong suitability of each horse above all else.

Private Acquisition

By appointment

Haras La Roussille is not a marketplace. Each Falabella leaves us matched to a single, reviewed home, accompanied by a full pedigree and care dossier and our commitment to the horse’s lifelong welfare.

We keep our herd deliberately small. Enquiries are welcome at any time; placement is rare, considered, and never rushed.

  • Quality over quantity

A small herd, bred for type, temperament and soundness — never for volume.

  • Matched, not sold

Each foal is paired with the home best suited to it, not the first to enquire.

  • Lifelong welfare

We remain reachable for the life of every horse that leaves us.
